Powering Rural Communities with Clean Energy

The Village Solar Connect Initiative is a community infrastructure project designed to provide reliable solar-powered charging access in rural communities. The first phase of the project will install two solar charging kiosks outside the base in Lennox Bigwood, creating a central location where residents can charge phones and essential devices using renewable energy.

Village Solar Connect Towers

Support the Village Solar Connect Towers initiative by helping fund solar charging stations for rural communities.

Donations will support:

  • Purchase of solar charging towers

  • Installation and site preparation

  • Ongoing maintenance and monitoring

  • Expansion into additional communities

Together we can bring clean energy, connectivity, and resilience to rural villages.

  • Many rural communities in Jamaica experience limited access to reliable electricity and charging infrastructure. In areas such as Lennox Bigwood, residents often depend on distant locations or inconsistent power sources to charge essential devices like mobile phones.

This lack of reliable charging access can create challenges for communication, education, small businesses, and emergency response—especially during power outages or natural disasters such as hurricanes. For rural farming communities, access to communication tools is critical for safety, coordination, and economic activity.

  • The Village Solar Connect Towers project will install two solar-powered charging towers outside the foundation’s base in Lennox Bigwood. These towers operate completely off-grid using solar panels, allowing residents to charge phones and small electronic devices using renewable energy.

Each tower is designed for outdoor environments and can serve multiple users at the same time through integrated USB charging ports and device connections.

The towers will provide a central charging hub for the community, improving daily access to electricity while supporting disaster preparedness and sustainable infrastructure.

  • This project will provide immediate and long-term benefits for the community:

    • Reliable charging access for residents

    • Support for communication during emergencies

    • Increased connectivity for education and small businesses

    • Promotion of renewable solar energy in rural areas

    • Strengthened infrastructure for underserved farming communities

By introducing solar charging infrastructure, the foundation is helping create a more connected and resilient rural community.

    • Purchase two solar-powered charging towers

    • Install them outside the base in Lennox Bigwood

    • Provide open community access to charging services

Following the initial installation, the foundation plans to expand the Village Solar Connect Towers network into other rural communities, increasing access to clean energy and digital connectivity across the region.

  • All charging towers installed through this initiative will be owned, monitored, and maintained by the foundation to ensure they remain safe, functional, and accessible to the community. Routine inspections and maintenance will be performed by the foundation team to support long-term operation.

  • The Village Solar Connect Towers will provide a reliable charging location for residents of Lennox Bigwood and surrounding farming communities. With many households located in rural areas with limited access to consistent power, the charging towers will help residents stay connected to family, emergency services, education, and economic opportunities.

By installing solar-powered charging infrastructure, the project will promote renewable energy while improving communication and resilience within the community.

  • The first two charging towers are expected to support:

    • 150–300 community members

    • Farmers and small business owners

    • Students needing device access for school

    • Residents during power outages or storms

As the program expands, additional towers will be installed in nearby rural communities.
