Emergency Hurricane Relief for Rural Communities in Jamaica

In rural western Jamaica, Hurricane Melissa delivered catastrophic damage, striking directly across hill communities such as Lennox Bigwoods and the surrounding districts. The storm caused massive landslides, uprooted trees, destroyed farms, and tore apart homes and community structures. Many roads became impassable, leaving families isolated without access to food, water, electricity, or medical care. Entire farming livelihoods were wiped out in a single day, and dozens of rural communities were left without telecommunications or government support. As a result, residents have been relying on community-led relief efforts for survival, communication, and essential supplies.
